Thoughts
trying to grow things that I can eat
- Vining Edibles
- pink lemonade blueberries are the tartest
- elderberry + moringa + passionflower is probably your strongest trio for both health value and porch survivability.
- Best Planter - replacement
- hilodendron gloriosum
- Tradescantia pallida 'Purple Heart'
- buddhas hand citron could be made into cocktails and teas

ok i need help creating my project plan for the plants im planting. Help me identify what soil i need and how much as well as any additional things i need to buy like pearlite. last year i underestimated how much soil id need 3 times so hopefully this year i’ll get it right the first time and buy everything I need. we want to do this on a budget so best case its just one kind of soil but i’m willing to buy 2 or maybe 3 if the need is dire. I’d rather buy bark and pearlite and mix myself but it will really depend on what lowes has to offer. I need a detailed grocery list, a step by step plan of which seeds to plant in which pots to plant them in, and then also a watering schedule. include how deep the plant the seeds and their spacing. If I should later pluck out the weaker sprouts, include that in the plan. here are the plants i’m working on:
- i need to repot my indoor kumquat tree. i’ve bought this pot https://www.etsy.com/listing/4295135573/115-x-10-extra-large-globe-planter?source=aw&utm_source=affiliate_window&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=us_location_buyer&utm_content=740219&sv1=affiliate&sv_campaign_id=740219&awc=6220_1775076273_45aaa8622c1bc03e43ecd2fdd53f08a8 but it has no drainage holes so I need to put a smaller pot inside it. this plant is my prize possession so make sure to get the dirt mixture spot on.
- I need to plant the following seeds in my indoor herb garden which features self watering planters that are cube-shaped and about 5-6 on all sides: genovese basil, giant of italy parsley, and slo-bolt cilantro,
- I also need to plant these seeds for my west-facing 3rd-story porch garden: Apache Sunset Agastache, Alaska Red Nasturtium, Bambino Marigold, and Benary's Giant White zinnia. I chose these because I’m trying to bring hummingbirds and pollinators to my porch and also they are supposed to help with my spider mite problem (which has been effecting my meyer lemon and my major wheeler honeysuckle the last 2 years - oh and killed a pea plant last summer but i wish to forget that ever happened). all of these seeds are new to me so I need help figuring out what pots to plant them in. help me determine which pairings are most appropriate.
- In the picture I’ve included all my pots. I have 6 little terracotta pots that are cylinders in shape with a diamater of 6” and a height of 5”. I also have a terracotta oval that is 13” long, 5.5” wide, and 5” high. I have 2 big cylinders that are ceramic. the larger one is 1’ diameter and 1’ high and it has drainage. The other is 9” diameter and 8” high and does not have drainage. I have 2 that aren’t cylinders in that they taper thinner toward the base. the smaller is ceramic and 5 diameter at the base and 7.5” at the rim and is 7” tall and it has no drainage. The other is plastic and 8” diamater at the base 11” at the rim, and 9” tall and it does have lots of drainage.
- It’s worth noting that I have a bit of old soil from last season so I think I should use it for the nasturtiums. is that correct?
